The format in one minute
Roll a random move and commit to it as the centerpiece of a battle, a build, or a scene. The move becomes the constraint that shapes everything else: which species learns it well, which partners cover its weaknesses, and which strategy it suggests. A single roll of Hyper Beam or Spore sends a team in wildly different directions. The challenge works because one constraint is inspiring while total chaos is paralyzing.
Variants for every game mode
In-game, build a team where every member carries the rolled move or a close cousin. In battles with friends, draft one random move each and build around the reveal. For solo players, roll one move per gym badge and weave it into the roster as you go. Each variant keeps the core promise: the move chooses you, not the other way around.
Making a weak roll fun
Sometimes the generator hands you a move with no obvious competitive use, and that is where the challenge gets clever. A weak move with a strong secondary effect, like a flinch chance or a stat drop, often matters more in real battles than raw power. Scoring and winner rules
Group runs need a scoreboard to stay friendly. Award points per knockout made by the rolled move, per battle won with it in the moveset, and bonus points for creative flavor text describing the finish. Set the target before starting, such as first to ten points, so nobody argues mid-run. Clear scoring turns a silly idea into a repeatable league night.
